Physicians
Physicians are often the first line of defense in a community. Family Physicians are often a “catch all” for anything that ails a
patient: treating medical, and often mental health needs, as a first line of defense in a community. Pharmacological
intervention can help, however physicians do not have the time or expertise to provide therapy. Patients often need mental
health care for depression, anxiety, addictions, anger, grief, adjusting to life transitions, or even appropriately handling medical
disorders, treatment, and prognosis. Research shows that patients benefit most from pharmacological intervention when
complemented with therapeutic intervention from a competent mental health professional. As with any specialty, referral to
the correct practitioner is key to recovery. Working with family physicians in the community to help their patients reach
physical and mental health is one of Dr. Lunden’s primary goals. Referral is a two-way street. Referring patients to
knowledgeable family physicians that can provide medical assessment and pharmacological treatment is a necessary treatment
component of integrated mental health services as well. If you are interested in setting up a referral relationship with Judy
Lunden, Psy.D., Licensed Psychologist, please call or text:
